| I'm back |

I just returned from a 5 day trip to visit my friends Gary and Randy in Biloxi, Mississippi, which had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. Most of the debris has been cleared away, but to see lots of vacant lots where buildings used to stand, and the remains of buidings and bridges is disturbing indeed. Gary and I took a side trip to New Orleans on Thursday. The drive there was very eerie, seeing mile after mile of gutted homes from the highway as we drove past. The French Quarter in New Orleans sustained very little damage from the hurricane, as it was built on higher ground. It was indescribably beautiful, I would return there in a heartbeat. We took a walking tour of St. Louis Cemetary (the oldest in New Orleans, and legendary voodoo queen Marie Laveau is entombed there...see the photo), and we met the reigning voodoo queen at the Voodoo Spiritualist Church, a lovely warm lady who looked at me and said "So you're an artist!" No one had told her...
The other photo is of "Yours Truly" standing in front of a Hurrricane Katrina Memorial, on Bay Boulevard in Biloxi. The memorial is the height of what the water level had risen to when the storm struck. I neednt say more.
Gary and Randy were great hosts, warm and funny and bright and with more guts than a slaugherhouse. I had a wonderful time. I am so glad I went, and they were happy to have me as a houseguest. ( Read more... ) |

| Happy Halloween! |

On Sunday, David and I drove down to Pennsylvania for the last day of the Renaissance Faire. There was a general Halloween theme, and it was also rather cold and windy, so we dressed accordingly. I received a lot of compliments on my coat, and tub-thumped Drac in a Box whenever I could! David took some great shots with HIS camera, and I will add them later to this post...

| The Mural is Finished! |

Well, the mural is, for all intents and purposes, finished. I have maybe another hour's worth of touch-ups and I still have to sign it, but it's done....and so am I!!

Last night, I attended my friend Bobbi's annual fundraiser Halloween party for homeless and abused animals. My dear friend Carol (we have been friends for over 30 years!) was my date....We had a really nice time, chatted with a lot of very nice people, and had a lot of wine... |

David and I attended the Renaissance Faire again this past Sunday, and wore our "big" outfits, it was nice and cool outside. We received a lof of compliments, the company from which I purchased my vegan-friendly boots is going to love me, I just sent them a lot of customers! The best compliment of all was paid by a man who asked if he could photograph us with his little girl. Oh, was she sweet! She ran up to us and was hugging us...my heart melted. AAARRRGHHHH!! | Across The Pond |

On Saturday, I met the very funny and bright (and damn, has she got the prettiest eyes!) Natalie, one of my darling British Goth girls, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, here in NYC. We had a great time, and yakked up a storm. Now, I have got to get my carcass over the UK soon, as it's been, well, many years since my last trip there!

The Amazon.com Discussion Boards get-together, held on August 20, 2006 at the Algonquin, was a blast. People finally got to associate faces and voices with names on Cyber space. My demonoid camera acted up, so some of my photos came out as blurred messes. Poo! However, other DBers shot pics, so I'm sure theirs came out better than mine. Here are 5 of mine...

My best friend Nan came in from the Left Coast 2 weeks ago, and we did along-overdue photo shoot of yours truly in some of his Drac in a Box duds. Nan is an excellent photographer, as well as an excellent artist and writer. I think we got some great shots. I plan to paint a self-portrait from the close-up.

This is the last room in our apartment, it's off the kitchen. I call it "The Mad Room." My weights are in there, some movie posters, our books (well, most of em), some of my paintings, you name it. The camera's battery must've been low, hence the fact that the pics arent too sharp, but you'll get the general idea of the insane decor.( Read more... ) |

I've been on a Greta Garbo binge. David bought me the Garbo boxed set for Christmas, and I've rediscovered the legendary Swedish actress. Strikingly beautiful, an excellent actress (she spoke volumes with her eyes), I can't take my eyes off her. And check out her eye makeup! Divine.

Hello, everyone. I hope you all had a happy, peaceful, drama-free Christmas! I certainly did. David got a new job (and not a minute too soon), so that was a big relief for the both of us. David gave me the Greta Garbo boxed set of DVDs (WOW!), and a great Film Noir boxed set as well, so I have a LOT of films to watch this winter! Food was great, lotsa drinks (natch), and a good time was had by all. Jake's birthday is on Christmas (well, I made it Christmas, as when I adopted him 5 years ago in late November,I was told he was 11 months old, so I decided his birthday must have been on Christmas, as he is so good-natured and loving!) Here is a pic of our tree, which took me hours and hours to decorate....
